An unidentified white male died in a bicycle accident in San Diego on January 3, according to CBS News 8. According to reports, several vehicles struck the cyclist in the Kenny Mesa area. The cyclist was riding westbound on Balboa Avenue near the Interstate 805 overpass. The cyclist was initially struck by a Ford Expedition; he was then struck by two other vehicles. He was pronounced dead on the scene, and the accident remains under investigation. Until the investigation progresses, it is difficult to assess what caused this accident and who may be at fault. Each year approximately 67,000 cyclists are hospitalized with injuries from accidents in the United States. In 2008, 716 cyclists died in accidents.
