Man Critically Injured in Tucson Bicycle Accident

A Tucson bicycle accident on August 9 sent one cyclist to the hospital with serious injuries, according to TucsonVelo.com.  The accident occurred as the cyclist was making his was on Broadway boulevard. The cyclist struck into a car that drove across his path.  Police did release the name of the victim.  According to Tucson Police Department Sgt. Matt Ronstadt, the driver failed to yield to the cyclist.  The cyclist was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Thankfully the cyclist was wearing a helmet.  The driver was cited for failure to yield the right of way.  While this is a tragic accident, the cyclist was fortunately wearing a helmet and that may very well have saved his life.  Messages from friends and witnesses on Facebook and Twitter indicated that the cyclist’s carbon fiber bicycle frame was “completely destroyed.” Bonnici Law Group APC—San Diego personal injury attorney.

Former NFL Quarterback Joey Harrington Seriously Injured in Bicycle Accident

Former NFL Quarterback Joey Harrington was seriously injured in a bicycle accident in which he was struck by an SUV.  The accident occurred in Portland, Oregon on July 31. The former number 3 overall draft pick was riding his bicycle on the side of the road—one without bike lanes—when the driver, a 26-year-old male, ran into him from behind. “The impact…put him on top of the car,” John Harrington, his father, told reporters.  “Joey ended up upside down and came down on his head and shoulder and then skidded off to the side.” Harrington suffered a broken collarbone, a punctured lung and a cut on his head.  The driver of the SUV stopped and waited with Harrington until an ambulance arrived.  The driver was later cited for following too close. Police Search For Suspect In Cyclist Hit-And-Run

A Seattle cyclist was injured in a hit-and-run bicycle accident on August 5, according to The Seattle Times.  The accident—which occurred around 2 a.m.—is the second hit-and-run with a cyclist in the past two weeks. Police reports identified the victim as a 25-year-old man from Renton, Washington.  A witness to the accident claims that he saw the cyclist his by a truck that proceeded to drive away.  The witness followed the truck to a fast food drive-through and wrote down the plate number, according to the police report. The victim—whose name was not released—was treating for minor injuries at Harborview Medical Center.  Police tracked the truck down at the address of the registered owner, but were not able to immediately locate the driver.
