North Carolina Police apprehended the suspect in a fatal hit-and-run bicycle accident that occurred on November 1, according to The Davidson County Dispatch.  The suspect, 20-year-old Kenneth Reece Wright Jr. of Thomasville, North Carolina, turned himself into police voluntarily.  He struck a cyclist on Old N.C. Highway 109 and fled. Authorities charged Wright with felony hit-and-run resulting in death, not displaying his registration plate, driving without an inspection, driving without insurance and failing to report an accident.  He is currently held on $100,000 bail. Police found Wright’s vehicle the day after the accident.  Wright turned himself in two hours later. “The Investigation is still ongoing,” said Trooper T.L. Gillispie. The victim was 45-year-old Richard Clay Wise.  He was thrown off his bike and into a ditch and pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.  Friends of Wise say that he was disabled after an accident he suffered as a child and…

A Mt. Whitney high school teacher was killed in a tragic bicycle accident in Visalia, California last month.  41-year-old Scott Nelson was riding on Rocky Hill Drive, east of Exeter, when he collided with a jogger.  It was a freak accident on a road that is popular for both cyclists and joggers.  Officials say Nelson was riding at approximately 35 mph at the time of the collision and was thrown from his bicycle.  He died at the scene from a blunt force trauma injury. When students returned to Mt. Whitney last month, many were still grieving the loss of the beloved teacher.  Nelson was a beloved teacher who will be missed by many. This is a tragic incident that appears on the surface to be a rare case of bad luck, but as a cyclist you are much more vulnerable in any type of accident than other motorists.  You cannot…

According to WKRC CBS News 12 in Cincinnati, a teenager on a bicycle was struck by a car on August 28 and had to be airlifted to the hospital.  According to police reports, the girl was struck by a car at around 8 pm on the Sunday night. Her name was not released, but reports identified the victim in the bicycle accident as a 15-year-old girl.  Authorities did not comment on her condition other than to say she was alert and responsive.  Officials said that the driver did stop and call 911 after the accident, but did not release further details.  No citations have been issued at this time. By all accounts this appears to be a tragic accident—comments on the news page indicate that the driver is a reverend who was very shaken up by this incident.  However, everyone needs to take all measures to prevent these car-bicycle collisions…
