2012 Cycling for Sight a Success!

Attorney Joshua Bonnici and the Bonnici Law Group, APC participated in the Blind Stokers Club’s 8th annual Cycling For Sight tour. The 3-day ride spanned 200 mile across Southern California, teaming blind cyclists with sighted captains on tandem bicycles. The ride began at the beautiful Torrey Pines in La Jolla on July 13 and ended on the 15th back at Torrey Pines. Participants slept in dormitories at the University of California-Irvine. The money raised will go to the Blind Stokers Club and the San Diego Center for the Blind. Dudek rode with his same partner for the third consecutive year. “It is very inspiring to cycle with this large group of blind athletes who are raising money for the San Diego Center for the Blind,” Dudek said. “Many of the blind ‘stokers’ train all year for this 200 mile, 3-day event.” Bonnici Law Group, APC—San Diego bicycle accident attorney.

Summer Cycling Safety Tips

As the summer continues to roll along, cyclists have certainly been enjoying the longer sunlight hours and ideal riding conditions across the country. If you regularly ride, especially in urban areas, chances are you may have a near-miss moment, if not an actual bicycle accident. Here is a list of helpful do’s and don’ts for all cyclists to keep in mind for the rest of summer. DO: Use lights. In addition to reflectors, make sure your bike is equipped with a light on the front and the rear. It not only helps you see the road at nights, but you will be much more visible to motorists. Follow traffic laws. Cyclists must obey the same traffic laws as motor vehicles; this includes signaling, stopping at red lights and stop signs and yielding to traffic when it is necessary. Hit-and-Run Claims Life of Cyclist, Beloved Professor

Steve Norwick, a popular Sonoma State University professor, lost his life in a tragic bicycle accident on June 8, according to JWeekly.com. Norwick was riding along a road when he was apparently hit by a motorist who fled the scene. Driver Robert Cowart plead not guilty to a felony hit-and-run charge. Norwick was in a coma for 10 days following the collision before he died at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. “It’s as if the fabric of our community has been torn apart,” said friend and colleague, Barbara Lesch McCaffry. “He touched hundreds of faculty and thousands of students.” Cowart, 68, has three previous convictions for drinking and driving. According to the prosecution, Cowart left the scene and proceeded on with his day as if nothing had happened before police caught him.
