Police Search for Motorist Who Struck Young Cyclist

A motorist critically injured a 13-year-old girl after striking her in a hit-and-run collision on February 6, according to the Los Angeles Times. The girl was riding her bike in Santa Ana on Greenville Street when the car struck her and then took off, according to police reports. She is in the hospital, but doctors expect her to survive. “The driver fled the scene, making no attempt to stop or check on the condition of the injured girl,” says Santa Ana Police Officer Anthony Bertagna. Several other motorists stopped to assist the young girl and called an ambulance. A potential witness, identified as a Latino man driving a black Chevrolet Suburban, left the scene as police arrived. Southern California Cyclist Struck By Car

A motorist struck a California cyclist on January 27, according to the Imperial Valley Press. The driver struck the cyclist in his Honda Accord. The victim did not have identification on him, but police identified him as a Calexico resident. Rescuers rushed him to the University of California San Diego Medical Center’s intensive care unit following the bicycle accident on Yourman Road in Calexico. The victim is in serious but stable condition, according to Sgt. Herman Duran of the Calexico Police Department. According to reports, the cyclist was stopped in the road bent over his bicycle when he was hit, possibly trying to fix something on the bike. It was dark out and the lighting on the road is poor. San Diego Cyclist Injured in Head-On Collision with Dodge

A car struck a cyclist in San Diego on January 25, according to UTSanDiego.com. The man struck suffered serious injuries in the bicycle accident, which occurred around 5:30 p.m. in a Stockton neighborhood, according to San Diego police. A man in his 40’s driving a Dodge Neon hit the cyclist near the intersection of 31st and Market Street. Officials did not release the identities of the driver or the cyclist. The cyclist was said to be in his late teens or early twenties. He was riding around a truck parked on the side of the street and collided head on with the Dodge Neon, according to Officer David Stafford. The cyclist suffered fractures to his leg and arm, but none of the injuries were life threatening. The driver of the car was uninjured. Police do not suspect alcohol to be a factor.
