Driver’s Tweets Lead to Murder Charge in California Bike Accident

Based on his tweets and driving history, charges against a California man were upgraded from manslaughter to murder in a bicycle accident, according to NPR. The man, 18, allegedly lost control of his 2004 Dodge Neon when it struck a woman, 58, and her husband, 57, riding their bikes in Pleasanton, Calif. on June 9. The collision killed the woman and injured her husband, who suffered a broken leg in the wreck. According to a report in The San Francisco Chronicle about the accident, the driver had been traveling 83 mph in a 40 mph zone, lost control and crashed into the couple, who had been riding in a bike lane alongside Foothill Road. The driver stopped and gave a statement to police after the accident, and once they completed their investigation in late July, he was arrested on felony charges of vehicular manslaughter and reckless driving. Bicycle-Slack Line Accident Claims Life of Utah State Student

According to KUTV CBS 2 in Salt Lake City, a Utah State University (USU) student was killed on August 26 when he hit a slack line tied between two trees on campus. The Spectrum.com reported that the accident happened around 5 p.m. The 24-year-old from the Salt Lake City suburb of West Jordan was riding down Old Main Hill when he ran into the slack line suspended about chest high. Slack lining has been growing in popularity the last few years. It is similar to the high wire act performed at many circuses, except at a lower height. People tie a slack line between two objects, usually trees, and balance on it and walk across it for recreation. Driver Hits Cycling Group, Injuring Seven

Seven cyclists were struck from behind by a car while riding on a highway in Arkansas, according to THV 11 News in Little Rock. The accident occurred at the intersection of Highways 37 and 17, north of McCrory. The car and the cyclists were both traveling northbound on Highway 17 when the car hit seven of the cyclists from behind. The seven cyclists were part of a group of 13 cyclists on a cross country trip organized by Overland Summer Camps of Williamstown, Massachusetts.
