Motorist Pleads Not Guilty in Fatal Hit-and-Run

A 19-year old man accused of fleeing the scene of a car accident pleaded not guilty to a felony charge of hit-and-run causing death, according to CBS 10 News in San Diego. Bail for Jim Hyuk Byun was set at $1 million, and he faces up to four years in prison if convicted. According to reports, Byun struck Angel Bojorquez, an 18-year-old grocery store clerk, as he was riding his bicycle home from work. Byun left Bojorquez to die on the side of the road, and he drove away and attempted to destroy some of the evidence on his truck from the bicycle accident. A neighbor of Byun’s noticed the damage to his truck and contacted the authorities. Bestselling Author Killed in Bicycle Accident

Stephen R. Covey, author of the immensely popular “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People,” died on July 16 from injuries sustained in a bicycle accident. Covey, 70, was initially injured in the accident last April in Provo, Utah. Covey fell from his bike and suffered severe head trauma, according to Provo Police Sgt. Brandon Post. Covey was wearing a bicycle helmet. Covey died at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls. The cause of his death was listed as “due to the residual effects of a bike accident he suffered this past April,” his family said in a released statement. “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” was published in 1989 and has sold over 20 million copies. Hit-and-Run Claims Life of Cyclist, Beloved Professor

Steve Norwick, a popular Sonoma State University professor, lost his life in a tragic bicycle accident on June 8, according to JWeekly.com. Norwick was riding along a road when he was apparently hit by a motorist who fled the scene. Driver Robert Cowart plead not guilty to a felony hit-and-run charge. Norwick was in a coma for 10 days following the collision before he died at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. “It’s as if the fabric of our community has been torn apart,” said friend and colleague, Barbara Lesch McCaffry. “He touched hundreds of faculty and thousands of students.” Cowart, 68, has three previous convictions for drinking and driving. According to the prosecution, Cowart left the scene and proceeded on with his day as if nothing had happened before police caught him.
