Arrest Made In Fatal Bicycle Accident

The investigation of a fatal bicycle accident on June 15 has turned up an interesting lead. According to the Bay City News Service, and Alameda County deputy probation officer was arrested on misdemeanor vehicular homicide charges on August 19. The suspect was identified as 32-year-old Eunique Wesley, and she is scheduled to appear in court on September 23. Wesley was driving east on Fairmont Drive near San Leandro when she veered into the cyclist—56-year-old Timothy Bucher—who hit his head on the windshield of Wesley’s Honda Civic. Bucher suffered massive head trauma even though he was wearing a helmet, according to police records.  He was taken to Eden Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Wesley was driving at approximately 35 mph. California City Spending $2.7 Million To Improve Pedestrian And Cyclists Safety

San Carlos in California is planning to spend $2.7 million to extend safety measures to bicyclists and pedestrians, according to MercuryNews.com. The project is focusing on the city’s east side and will widen and add sidewalks, bicycle lanes, street lamps, parking spaces and trees with planters. “It will improve the physical look of the neighborhood and make it easier for everyone to get around, whether bicyclists, pedestrians or vehicular traffic,” City Planning Manager Deborah Nelson said. Some local restaurants were concerned about losing parking spots for patrons and the project, which has been dubbed the “East Side Connect Project,” could hurt their business. “The challenge is to meet everyone’s needs,” Nelson said. Chicago Woman Killed in Bicycle Accident

Chicago cyclist Jacqueline Michon was killed in a tragic bicycle accident on August 6 while she was on her way back from the popular Lollapalooza music festival.  The victim was identified as Jacqueline Michon, a 25-year-old fitness instructor, according to the Chicago Sun Times. According to police reports, Michon was riding home shortly before 11 p.m. when she pulled between a car and a truck that had stopped for a red light.  Witnesses said she lost her balance and fell under the rear wheel of the truck, which took off when the light turned green, before she had a chance to crawl to safety. “It was a tragic accident,” said Officer John Mirabelli of the Chicago Police.  “It appears from witnesses…the bicyclist had lost her footing and slipped under the wheels.” The driver of the truck was not aware that anything had happened until a bystander stopped him.  The driver…
