Chicago cyclist Jacqueline Michon was killed in a tragic bicycle accident on August 6 while she was on her way back from the popular Lollapalooza music festival. The victim was identified as Jacqueline Michon, a 25-year-old fitness instructor, according to the Chicago Sun Times.
According to police reports, Michon was riding home shortly before 11 p.m. when she pulled between a car and a truck that had stopped for a red light. Witnesses said she lost her balance and fell under the rear wheel of the truck, which took off when the light turned green, before she had a chance to crawl to safety.
“It was a tragic accident,” said Officer John Mirabelli of the Chicago Police. “It appears from witnesses…the bicyclist had lost her footing and slipped under the wheels.”
The driver of the truck was not aware that anything had happened until a bystander stopped him. The driver remained on the scene and no charges have been filed as of yet.
This is an example of an incident that seems like a tragic accident, although this could have prevented had there been proper bike lanes on the road.
