SUV Strikes San Diego Cyclist in Bicycle Lane

A bicycle accident claimed the life of 63-year-old Charles Raymond Gilbreth, according to 10News.com. A Chrysler SUV struck Gilbreth from behind as he was riding on Montezuma Road in San Diego. Responders pronounced him dead on the scene. The driver of the SUV remained on the scene after the accident and called 911. According to San Diego Police Lt. Andra Brown, Gilbreth was riding in the bicycle lane. According to reports, speed was not a factor and alcohol was not involved in the accident. The driver was not cited and the accident remains under investigation. Many questions still remain. How did the driver not see the cyclist,who was in front of the SUV? California Distracted Driver Convicted for Killing Young Cyclist

A jury in California convicted a distracted driver for killing an 8-year-old boy on a bicycle, according to the Orange County Breeze. Anita Sue Cherry, 49, pleaded guilty to one count of reckless driving and was sentenced to three years of probation and 300 hours community service. Cherry struck the young cyclist on Shawnee Road in Westminster on the morning of January 19, 2011 in her Ford SUV. The young victim, AJ Brumback, was on his way to school. The defendant claimed she looked away from the road before striking the young boy at an intersection. Brumback, who had his bicycle helmet on, was tossed from his bike.
