San Diego Bicycle Accident Attorney Sheds Light on Chicago Police Officer’s Attempted Cover-Up

An off-duty police officer in Chicago has found himself in some hot water following an auto collision involving a bicyclist and his actions following the accident, according to SunTimes.com. According to reports, Michael Bergeson, 33, called police after he crashed his car into the cyclists, but claimed he did not know what caused her injury. The girl was riding her bicycle with her boyfriend riding behind her when she was struck by Bergeson in his F-150 truck. The victim flew over the hood of the car and landed on the pavement, where she was visibly bleeding from her head. After calling police, Bergeson moved his car away from the victim, striking two parked cars in the process and causing his license plate to come off his truck. San Diego Bicycle Accident Lawyer Applauds Mayor Villaraigosa

In 2011, community organizers and legislators in Los Angeles approved a plan to expand and improve the bike paths throughout the city. Planning and funds were approved for 139 miles of bike paths and approximately 1,500 of bike lanes added to existing roads. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa—and avid cyclist who broke his elbow after he was struck by a taxi cab while riding in July of 2010—says his goal is to add 40 new “bikeable miles” a year. On November 16, Mayor Villaraigosa attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a newly completed bike path along the Los Angeles River near Tampa Avenue. “These are things that’ll happen over a long period of time, but they’re going to happen,” said Mayor Villaraigosa. “We did 76 this year, baby!” Officials hope the bike path will breathe new life into the area and attract more families. San Diego Bicycle Accident Attorney Reports that Grand Rapids Halts Cycling Legislation Changes Due to Bicycle Safety Concerns

Cyclists in Grand Rapids, Michigan are divided over proposed legislation that would require all bicyclists to stay off roads and sidewalks in areas where bike lanes are present. The idea was met with such opposition from cycling advocates that legislators decided to put it on hold. “Cyclists do have a legal right to be on the road,” said Barbara Schmid, chairwoman of the Greater Grand Rapids Bicycle Coalition. “This would be a step backward for all cyclists in the state. It’s probably a better idea to take a step back and really think it through. There’s so many nuances from a cyclist’s perspective that we have to be aware of.” There were many aspects of the new legislation, including a provision requiring cyclists to dismount and walk their bikes across crosswalks.
