79-Year-Old Man Killed in Bicycle Accident

A 79-year-old man died in a bicycle accident in Escondido on September 27, according to the North County Times.  The victim, Jerzy Nowak, suffered fatal injuries after he fell off his bicycle.

Witnesses saw him fall around 7:30 p.m.  No other bicycles, vehicles or pedestrians appeared to be involved, according to Escondido Police Lt. Tom Albergo.  He was taken to the Palomar Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead from his injuries.  He was not wearing a bicycle helmet and did not have a light on his bicycle.

Cycling is a sport and activity that is healthy and can be enjoyed by people well into their twilight years.  It is a great way to stay active.  However, all cyclists should exercise the utmost care, especially when riding at dusk and at night.
