Bicyclist Killed in Tragic Head-On Collision

Travis Carroll, 39, died in a bicycle accident in Bermuda Dunes on April 14, according to BigBearGrizzly.net. Carroll was a Lake Patrol officer for the Big Bear Municipal Water District.

Carroll was riding southeast on Highway 42 at the time of the bicycle accident.  Carroll collided head on with a van; the driver was Jack Woodward, 49, of Palm Desert. According to a California Highway Patrol officer, the van was traveling approximately 35 miles per hour. Paramedics immediately rushed Carroll to John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:17 p.m.

Investigators have yet to determine the cause of the bicycle accident, though they did say that alcohol or drugs did not appear to be a factor. The accident ejected Carroll from his bike, and he was not wearing a bicycle helmet.

Carroll served as Lake Patrol director for the Big Bear Municipal Water District and also served as a firefighter with the Big Bear City Fire Department.
