According to TahoeBonanza.com, a 12-year-old boy from Kings Beach was injured in a tragic collision with a vehicle while he was riding his bike. The bicycle accident occurred on Bear Street in Kings Beach shortly after noon. The boy rode onto Highway 28 and was struck by a vehicle, according to California Highway Patrol Trooper Tom Andrade.
“He was ejected off of the bicycle and suffered some major injuries,” said Andrade. “Available information shows he is still in pretty serious condition.”
The boy—whose name was not released—was taken to Tahoe Forest Hospital before being airlifted to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno. Witness reports said the boy did not stop for traffic and was traveling at a high speed. No arrests or citations were issued.
This accident serves as an example of how young riders need to learn the basics of bicycle safety, especially when they are riding alongside roadways.
