California Man Killed in Fatal Bicycle Accident

According to the San Jose Mercury News, a 31-year-old man was killed on July 4 after he was struck by a car while riding his bicycle.  According to the Santa Cruz County Sherriff’s-Coroner’s Office, Noel Hamilton was riding down Soquel-San Jose Road near Oneill Lane at the time of the tragic bicycle accident, approximately 10:10 p.m., according to investigators.  California Highway Patrol officer said that Hamilton was struck by a car traveling in the same direction and was not wearing a bicycle helmet.

Hamilton was pronounced dead at the scene, although the exact cause of death has yet to be determined, according to sheriff’s deputy April Skalland.

The driver of the vehicle initially left the scene of the accident.  Approximately 40 minutes after the collision was reported on the news, the driver of a white Infiniti returned to the scene, claiming to have witnessed the accident.  CHP treated the witness as a suspect, but no arrests were made.
