Teenager Critically Injured in Bicycle Collision with SUV

A special fund-raising benefit is being held on July 22 for 13-year-old Cody Allen, a young man from New Jersey who was injured in a tragic bicycle accident.  The money raised will help go towards Cody’s medical expenses. Cody collided with an SUV at an intersection on May 16. “My friends and I were at a park nearby, and when we left, another friend and I were going down a hill,” Cody told NJ.com reporters.  “The brakes went out.” As Cody was approaching the stop sign, he shouted to his friends that his brakes were not working, and one friend told him he was clear to pass through the intersection.  He did not see the SUV approaching the intersection at the same time, and Cody collided into the side of the vehicle.  Cody turned so his right side of his body would absorb the impact, but his leg became caught…

California Man Killed in Fatal Bicycle Accident

According to the San Jose Mercury News, a 31-year-old man was killed on July 4 after he was struck by a car while riding his bicycle.  According to the Santa Cruz County Sherriff’s-Coroner’s Office, Noel Hamilton was riding down Soquel-San Jose Road near Oneill Lane at the time of the tragic bicycle accident, approximately 10:10 p.m., according to investigators.  California Highway Patrol officer said that Hamilton was struck by a car traveling in the same direction and was not wearing a bicycle helmet. Hamilton was pronounced dead at the scene, although the exact cause of death has yet to be determined, according to sheriff’s deputy April Skalland. The driver of the vehicle initially left the scene of the accident.  Approximately 40 minutes after the collision was reported on the news, the driver of a white Infiniti returned to the scene, claiming to have witnessed the accident.  CHP treated the witness…

Bicycle Safety Signs Protect Cyclists

According to the Los Angeles Times, cyclists riding along Angeles Crest Highway will have a little more peace of mind due to an increase in posted bicycle safety signs along the highway.  Some of the signs are replacing old ones that became damaged or were removed.  Three of the new signs replace ones that were burnt in a fire in 2009. Dale Benson, Caltrans senior transportation engineer, is in charge of pedestrian and bicycle safety along the roadway.  He began to receive emails from Trent Sanders, a concerned cyclist.  Sander read about Earl Clyde Cox, a La Crescenta citizen who was arrested in June for threatening a group of cyclists with his vehicle in what was called an incident of road rage.
