NBCUniversal received approval from the Los Angeles City Planning Commission to expand its San Fernando Valley facility, which interferes with the much-anticipated bike path along the L.A. River, according to the Los Angeles Times. NBC agreed to make modifications to accommodate the bike path. The bike path was finally approved by the city at the request of the city’s cyclists and environmentalists.
“I’m excited that NBC has stepped up to the plate with real dollars,” says Eric Bruins of the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition.
It is great that NBC is taking the cycling community into consideration while expanding its facilities. The L.A. bike path overhaul was an enormous accomplishment for the cycling community, and a setback would be a devastating blow.
“We are very pleased at the outcome of today,” says Corinne Verdery, NBCUniversal’s chief real-estate development officer. “And we’re grateful to all the community members who came out to participate. We’re looking forward to the process of ultimately getting to build the project, and creating more than 30,000 more jobs.”
Los Angeles and businesses operating within the city would be wise to accommodate the ever-growing cycling community. Please visit our website for more information on bicycle safety.
