San Diego Bicycle Accident Attorney Weighs In on Ghost Bikes

A monument erected at Boston University to honor the victim of a fatal bicycle accident has become known as the “ghost bike” because of its white color and what it stands for. Christopher Weigl was a 23-year-old graduate student at Boston University who was killed in a collision involving a commercial truck near campus on December 6. Monuments like this are used to mark the spots where a cyclist has been killed in a collision with a motorist. Cycling Community Rallies in Support of Accident Victim

A large group of cyclists in San Antonio, Texas gathered for an organized ride to benefit bicycle accident victim Monica Caban, according to MySanAntonio.com. Caban, 39, was struck from behind by a car while riding on October 20. The crash left her paralyzed from the waist down, and doctors have said they are doubtful she will ever walk again. Caban, a mother of two, was hit while riding along Interstate 10 with a friend, training for the Ironman in Arizona in November. Caban completed the Florida Ironman last year. Caban was hit by a truck and flung 30 feet. The impact immediately severed her spine. The San Antonio cycling community rallied in support of Caban, as well as to take a stand against inconsiderate motorists. As the cycling community grows across the nation, it is more important than ever that everyone is aware of bicycle safety laws. This video from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is full of valuable information and tips for new and experienced riders alike. Safety should be the top priority for all cyclists, so if you have children, be sure to teach them safe habits from a young age. Here are some statistics from the NHTSA: Sixty-nine percent of all cycling fatalities occur in urban areas. Approximately 28 percent of fatal bicycle accidents occur between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. The average age of a fatal bicycle accident victim is 41.
