Laguna Beach Man Killed In Bicycle Accident

A Laguna Beach man died in a tragic bicycle accident on November 6, according to the Los Angeles Times.  The identity of the victim was not immediately available, but the California Highway Patrol said he was 51 years old.  According to reports, the cyclist veered onto the wrong side of a road in Malibu and struck a guardrail before he was thrown over the handlebars.  The victim suffered massive head trauma.  He was airlifted to UCLA Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The road where the accident occurred—Las Flores Canyon Road—is very curvy and popular among cyclists.  The CHP noted that it is an extremely difficult road to ride on, even for experienced cyclists.  The victim was wearing a bicycle helmet.

It can be exciting to try out new and challenging bike paths, but always remember to follow bicycle safety laws and make sure you are cycling within your abilities.
