Young Boy Critically Injured In Bicycle Accident

A young boy in Texas was rushed to the hospital after a bicycle accident in Fort Bend County after a car struck him, according to ABC News 13.  Authorities and news sources did not identify the boy; conflicting reports suggest he is 12 or 13 years old.

A white Lincoln sedan hit the boy while he crossed at an intersection on Highway 99, according to Department of Public Safety Trooper Devon Wiles.  The boy was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital. The authorities did not disclose his injuries.  The driver stayed on the scene and cooperated with police.

The boy was wearing a bicycle helmet, according to officials, but he did not have reflectors on his bike and was not in a crosswalk.  Police did not issue any citations to the driver.  Authorities are still investigating, but said the boy may face charges for crossing a highway outside of a crosswalk.

This is a tragic reminder for cyclists of all ages to use the proper safety equipment as well and always follow bicycle safety laws.
