Motorcycle Collides With Bicyclist On Highway 1

An accident off Highway 1 in Southern California has left two men with serious injuries on September 13, according to the San Jose Mercury News.  According to police reports, a 44-year-old man riding on a Suzuki Motorcycle collided with a 26-year old cyclist. The accident happened in the afternoon near Año Nuevo State Reserve.  Both men were taken to Stanford Hospital with serious injuries.  It appears alcohol was not a factor in the motorcycle accident. While investigators are still sorting out the facts surrounding the accident, it is a reminder of the consequences for both cyclists and motorists when they do not share the road.  Always be alert and aware of your surrounding while cycling. Flyers’ Manager Injured In Bicycle Accident

Paul Holmgren, the general manager of the Philadelphia Flyers of the NHL, was injured in a bicycle accident on September 5.  Holmgren was riding his bicycle in Camden, New Jersey when he lost control and fell off, according to reports.  No other cyclist, motorists or pedestrians were involved, and Holmgren was wearing a bicycle helmet. According to some sources, Holmgren suffered more serious injuries—broken ribs and a broken shoulder—but his complete medical status was not available.  Officials are still looking into the accident. Even experienced cyclists must be proactive to avoid accidents.  Holmgren is a very tough individual. He played in the NHL for years.  Fortunately, he was wearing a helmet, which can substantially reduce serious head injuries. Bonnici Law Group APC—San Diego bicycle accident attorney.

Lake Tahoe Area Gets New Bicycle Lanes

California bicycle enthusiasts have reason to celebrate after confirming that a portion of Highway 89 will be repaved to improve bicycle safety.  The $8.5 million project will make multiple improvements to the road—it will be repaved, widened and bicycle lanes will be added.  The path will connect Tahoe City to Truckee and will begin construction in spring of 2012. “It will be a lot easier to maintain once we have a good base for it, so we’re excited,” said Caltrans Public Information Officer Deanna Shoopman. The highway was previously a nightmare for cyclists.  It was described as rough and dangerous, with shoulders too narrow for cyclists. “The street was terrible,” said Paco Lindsay, a local bicycle shop owner.  “It was kind of a joke.” The long-awaited improvement is a great way to invest in the community and make the roadways safer for everyone.
